💬 Facebook + WhatsApp
How to add WhatsApp to your Facebook Page
To add WhatsApp to a Facebook Page, switch into the Page and open Settings → Linked accounts → WhatsApp. Enter your WhatsApp Business number, request the code and complete verification. You can also start the connection inside the WhatsApp Business app.

On this page
The native connection lets a Page visitor open a conversation from its WhatsApp button. This is not the same as pasting a wa.me URL into a post: the button relies on the linked account and Page permissions, while a link can be created separately for each campaign or placement.
What you need before linking the accounts
- A Facebook business Page; a personal profile or professional-mode profile is not a substitute for that Page.
- An active account in the WhatsApp Business app and access to the number that receives verification.
- Admin access to the Page. If the Page belongs to a Meta business portfolio, you also need the corresponding business access.
- Current versions of Facebook and WhatsApp Business if you use the mobile route.
- Confirmation that the Page and WhatsApp Business account are not already tied to another account that conflicts with this app-based flow.
Connect WhatsApp from Facebook
- 1
Switch into the Page
Log in to Facebook, open See all profiles and select the correct business Page. Do not continue from your personal profile.
- 2
Open Linked accounts
Go to Settings & privacy → Settings. Under Permissions, choose Linked accounts and then WhatsApp.
- 3
Verify the number
Select the country code, enter the WhatsApp Business number and request the code through WhatsApp. You need access to that account to receive it.
- 4
Finish connecting
Enter the code and follow the on-screen prompts. Check that Facebook shows the intended number and Page before confirming.
- 5
Test as a visitor
Open the Page from another profile or a private window, locate the button and confirm on a phone that it starts a chat with the right business.
Menu labels can move
Meta separates instructions for desktop, Android and iPhone and may change the interface. Use Page → Settings → Permissions → Linked accounts → WhatsApp as the stable route, even if a visual label changes.
Alternative: connect from WhatsApp Business
- 1
Open business tools
In WhatsApp Business, open the Tools tab and choose Facebook & Instagram.
- 2
Sign in to Facebook
Tap Facebook → Continue and sign in with the account that administers the Page you intend to connect.
- 3
Choose the Page
Select the correct Page and tap Connect WhatsApp. If you do not have a business Page, the flow may offer to create one.
Native button or tracked link: use the right route
| Placement | Best option | What you can observe |
|---|---|---|
| Page header | Native WhatsApp button | A conversation arriving in the account; the button does not accept a taap.at redirect |
| Organic post | A WhatsApp link reserved for that post | Link openings before WhatsApp |
| Owned campaign or channel | A different link per campaign or placement | Comparable openings by source |
| Click-to-WhatsApp ad | Message destination configured in Meta Ads | Ad results and conversations available through Meta's tools |
Do not replace the native button with a redirect just to count clicks. Keep the button for direct contact intent and create separate links only in placements where Facebook accepts a URL. This prevents Page-header traffic from being mixed with post or campaign traffic.
Create a companion link for posts
Use a short message that identifies the placement, such as: “Hi, I saw your September Facebook post and would like to ask about…”. Generate the link, test it on a phone and reserve it for that item. A visitor can edit or delete the text before sending, so it provides context rather than automatic proof of source.
What taap.at measures
A taap.at short link measures an opening of its redirect. It cannot tell whether the visitor sent the message, became a qualified enquiry or completed a purchase. The Page's native button does not pass through taap.at.
Why the option is missing or will not connect
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| WhatsApp is absent from the profile | Make sure you manage a business Page rather than a personal or professional-mode profile. |
| You cannot open Linked accounts | Check your Page access and, where applicable, your access to the Meta business portfolio. |
| The code does not arrive | Recheck country and number, confirm that it is the intended WhatsApp Business account and request another code without sharing it. |
| The Page is already connected | Identify the linked account before removing it. Disconnecting can affect the button and pause click-to-WhatsApp ads. |
| The wrong number appears | Review active campaigns before disconnecting, link the right account and test again as a visitor. |
Publishing and measurement checklist
- The Page, business name and number belong to the same business.
- The button opens the correct WhatsApp account on mobile.
- The responding team recognises Facebook as the source when a message arrives.
- Each measurable post or campaign has its own link rather than reusing one URL everywhere.
- Openings, conversations, qualified enquiries and sales remain separate stages.
- Any click-to-WhatsApp ads that could pause are reviewed before disconnecting an account.
Frequently asked questions
Can I add WhatsApp to a personal Facebook profile?
The native connection and button described here require a business Page. You may share a URL where a personal profile field or post permits one, but that is not the same integration.
Do I need WhatsApp Business?
Yes. The official app-based flow requires an account in the WhatsApp Business app and a Facebook business Page.
Where is Linked accounts?
Switch into the Page first. Then open Settings & privacy → Settings; under Permissions, choose Linked accounts → WhatsApp.
Can taap.at measure the Page's WhatsApp button?
Not directly. The native button opens the linked account. Use separate taap.at links in posts or placements that accept a URL to measure openings from those sources.
Does a link click confirm that a message was sent?
No. It confirms an opening of the redirect. Verify the conversation in WhatsApp Business and the sale in your commercial record.
What happens if I disconnect WhatsApp from the Page?
The button is no longer linked, and Meta warns that associated click-to-WhatsApp ads may pause. Review campaigns and permissions before removing the account.
